Free Rein
Recently, Kitty and I got in to this show on Netflix called "Free Rein". It's a show about horses with lots of drama and mysteries. At first I didn't think it would interest me, but after watching it with Kitty, I've become a bit obsessed. While there are only 3 seasons, with 10 episodes each, and 2 specials, there are so many incredible moments and loveable characters, so much suspense and drama.
While we love pretty much all the characters, our favorites have to be Zoe, played by Jaylen Barron, and Pin played by Freddy Carter, and of course we had to make dolls of them. Why else would I be writing this blog post anyway? :'D
Meet Zoe Phillips and Pin Hawthorne:
Zoe is the main character of the show, and while the show takes place in the UK, she's American. She and her family spend the summer on an island in the UK where her mother's originally from, and there she meets this particular horse, Raven.
For her outfit, Kitty and I based it off of her outfits from the first episode ever. While the fabrics I used are not the same material as her actual outfit, visually it looks pretty close. Zoe's wearing a blue anorak over a striped, red, and grey tank top, over another light blue tank top, paired with green leggings and pink and white sneakers.
Normally for curling doll hair, I use the method of wrapping yarn around dowels, soaking the yarn overnight in water, and then baking it at a low temperature for an hour in the oven the next day. This time, however, I didn't want to put it in the oven because it's time-consuming, so I instead used the iron to "cook" the yarn, and I got pretty much the same result. So if you wanted to curl yarn and didn't want to be bothered to put it in the oven, there's a second option for you. :)
Pin and Zoe have had an interesting relationship throughout the show, and it's had its ups and downs. Pin starts out as a grumpy stable boy, working at the local stable, Bright Fields. Initially, the two had trouble becoming friends, and from there had issues trying to figure out their relationship. But by the end of season 2 and onwards, Zoe and Pin are officially a couple.
For Pin's outfit, we decided to go with his outfit seen in the last episode of season 1. It's a very simple tan overshirt paired with a black t-shirt and green trousers, along with a pair of brown boots. The colors for the doll's outfit are a bit off - the overshirt should be a more orange color and the trousers should be a lighter, more faded green, but other than that, I think I did a very good job recreating his outfit.
We're really happy to have Zoe and Pin in our collection of weird homemade dolls and hope to someday add more of the cast to our growing dolly family.

We used our Webkinz horses, Black Jack (left), and Ginger (right) as stand-ins for Zoe and Pin's horses, Raven and Elvis. |
